Hattiesburg Alumni Club Events for 2010
“50 years and still strong”
** Ms Alpha chapter members will provide child care for community service hours during alum club events**
August 29- MS Alpha Recruitment Skit night
• We will provide dinner (pizza) for the chapter during Formal Recruitment on September 5th.
September 6, 13, 20 and 27
• Beginners Cake decorating Class at Michaels. Contact Carrie (happydaisyct84@aol.com) if you are interested. Every Monday for a month from 6:30-8:30.
September 7- MS Alpha’s Bid Day at the chapter house.
• Please be at the house at 5:00pm or ASAH to help with bid day.
September 17- USM Football Fun at 5:00pm at the Alumni House Restaurant
• We will be having dinner at the Alumni House and then driving over to support the Golden Eagles in their first televised home game of the season against Kansas or if you can stay and watch the game at the Alumni House.
September 28- Movie Night (time and movie will be decided closer to the date)
October 7- Meeting and Game Night at Brittany Spark’s house at 6:00pm.
• An Angel’s Best Friend- Help Southern Pines Animal Shelter- please bring one or more of the following items: metal food pans, metal gallon buckets, towels, blankets, toys for dogs or cats. For more information, contact Ashley Sherrard (ashleyshe3@aol.com)

October 19- Nifty Nail Night (time will be decided closer to the date)
• Time for some much needed Rest and Relaxation! Join us for a pedicure night at Nifty Nail Salon.
November 3- Cooking Class (time and location will be decided closer to the date)
November 9- MS Alpha Philanthropy Arrowstrike at Champion Lanes
• If you are interested in being on the Alumnae bowling team, email Ashley Sherrard (ashleyshe3@aol.com)
November 16- Holiday Designs and Meeting
• We will decorate MS Alpha’s house for Christmas and meet the Seniors. Toys for Tots- Bring an unopened toy
November 19- Bowling Night (time and location will be decided closer to date)
December 4- Christmas Party at 4:00pm at Mrs Pat Hughes’ house.
• Bring a Secret Santa gift $15 limit and finger foods are welcome.

This award is presented to distinguished individual alumnae honored for outstanding personal achievement in areas of community service or professional achievements. These awards are presented in honor of Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg who served as Grand President from 1985–1991. Nominations may be submitted by collegiate chapters, alumnae organizations or individual alumna. Past nominations may be resubmitted. Any Pi Beta Phi alumna in good standing is eligible to receive this award. Nominees need not be current members of an alumnae organization.
Please email me happydaisyct84@aol.com nominations and I will get back to you about information needed. It is due Oct. 1. So please nominate a Pi Phi or yourself.

Mississippi Alpha needs assistance during recruitment.
Recruitment is September 2-7 this year. Bid day is on September 7th at the Pi Phi house @ 6:00 p.m. The women are asking for alumnae help and support. The chapter needs tents for outside games, a BBQ grill for food being grilled, side dishes for the members to eat, and alum support to be around to talk and help with games going on at the house. Mignon Faget to donate Arrow Pin to MS Alpha
Dear Pi Phi Sisters:
I have some very exciting news to share with you. Mignon Faget, a well-known jeweler out of New Orleans, has agreed to donate an arrow pin to our new house for our 50th anniversary. The arrow will be put in a shadowbox and placed on the wall. Tricia Sarpy, Mignon Faget representative, will be joining us for our anniversary on April 9, 2011 to present the arrow. Tricia will also be bringing several of Mignon's pieces if you are interested in ordering. You can view her beautiful jewelry on www.mignonfaget.com. MS Alpha in Spring 2010--The Arrow

Have you received your Spring Arrow yet? If you have and have read it? If you have read it, you might have seen MS Alpha and Hattiesburg Alum Club member Kathryn Lewis featured in it. On page 32, Kathryn's book, "The Longleaf and me A-Z" is feathered in Pi Phi Pens.
"The Longleaf and Me A-Z" is a collaborative effort by Mississippi Alpha Kathryn Schledwitz Lewis, Sandra Cassibry and Jeffery Jones. Thebook combines scientific information with artwork created by collegiate and elementary students and teaches children about Mississippi wildlife. It shows what the animals look like, which animals survive in the area's humid climate and illustrates the animals' dies and habitats.
Be sure to go purchase the book for your Pi Phi Angel(s)!!!

I (Sylvia Blissett, MS Alpha Alumnae & member of Hattiesburg Alum Club) make one of a kind T-Shirt Quits in 2 sizes 78X78 ($400) and 90X90 ($450). You only provide the T-shirts either 12 or 16. Never cut your T-shirts. Let me do that work for you. I also quilt for the public. If you have a quilt top you need quilted. Price is determined by (1.) The size of the quilt. I charge 1 and 1/2 cents per square inch. for an over all design. If you want a "custom" quilted top, I will discuss with you what you are willing to pay. The starting price is 2 cents per square inch and increases as the design you want gets more complicated. You must provide the backing and the batting. This I can pick up for you but would, of course, be added to the price. Also, if you are going to provide the materials, I would need to discuss with you the appropriate size and fabric content. Plain quilt tops can come "alive" with good quilting. To check my work please check my pictures at www.webshots.com in the search bar type in justsewsimple as one word. You can tell what are the t-shirt quilt and which are not. Please contact me if I can help you. I do quilts on a first come first serve basis. Come join the Hattiesburg Alumnae Club Ladies' Night Out. It is all about getting together, having fun and spending time with your best friends. It happens all too often, we say we are going to get together and then a month goes by without even a phone call. If you don't put it on the calendar it just won't happen. So ladies, pick a night, any night, mark your calendar & join us to eat, drink, chat and create your heart out.

Founder's Day with MS Alpha
Happy early Founder’s Day (March 28)!!! We had a wonderful Founder’s Day celebration this past Sunday. There was an array of alums in attendance(founding members-2005) with great stories to share. The pledge classes of 1966-1969 dedicated their room to Mrs. Kathryn Lewis. She was in total shock, awe, and completely honored. To finish the award ceremony off, Barbara Ross was awarded MS Alpha Alum of the Year! The chapter thanked her for her dedication, her willingness to ALWAYS help and support them, and for her time and commitment.
Another exciting event happened…. Geneva, MS Alpha current President, announced that MS Alpha has been ranked by Head Quarters this year. This is EXCITING NEWS!!!! This is the first time the chapter has been ranked since the system was put into place. There are three ranks…. Pi, Beta, and Phi level. We do not know which level the chapter received. Congratulations to MS Alpha for all of their hard work and thank you to all the alums who came out and supported the chapter.
